In mathematics, a separatrix is a separating curve, curve-like surface, or higher-dimensional generalization that divides a phase space into regions with qualitatively different behavior. In a simple dynamical system, it can divide trajectories into two subsets with drastically different long-term behavior. Also, in phase transitions, a separatrix can refer to the boundary for the thermodynamic states of a system.
