A retinule is a small collection of cells, particularly of the retinal pigment epithelium, that is found in certain taxa, such as insects, and is involved in the function and maintenance of the retina. It is also a microscopic formation, less developed than a retinaculum, found on various animal integuments and plant organs, performing protective or supportive functions.
